Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are among the most estheticly pleasing means of creating a more beautiful smile.

A veneer is a thin covering over another surface. In dentistry a veneer is a thin layer of dental restorative material, usually porcelain that replaces enamel.

Facets involved in beautifying smiles

The role of the dentist, is mainly to make a detailed analysis of your smile. In order for him or her to make a diagnoses and choose the appropriate procedure for change or enhancement.

Porcelain veneers within reason allow for the alteration of tooth position, shape, size and color. They require a minimal amount of tooth preparation. In the case of porcelain veneers reduction is approximately 0.5 mm of surface enamel and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown. Which requires significant removal of sound tooth structure.

After a traditional dental exam has verified the health of all underlying structures, the dentist begins a smile analysis. Using facial measurement formulas relating teeth to the face and other techniques to customize the appropriate sized teeth to each specific individual.

Provisional Teeth

First a computer imaging processes replicate the patient’s smile and then fabricate a mock-up smile made of tooth-colored wax. This is used to make the provisional teeth after the diagnostic visit.

Provisional teeth are common.

Porcelain veneers are not reversible. Then enamel is removed from your teeth during the prepping process of your teeth for dental veneers so that the caps can fit over them. This means they cannot be restored new veneer must replace them.

Occasionally, the preparation of a porcelain laminate veneer does not necessitate the use of a local anesthetic. However, for those patients that are particularly sensitive or anxious, a local anesthetic is advisable.

What to expect?

Some sensitivity to hot and cold is normal. As a result of the removal of a small portion of the tooth’s enamel covering. This sensitivity should disappear a few days after the placement of the veneers. This visit is usually longer in length. With a light-sensitive resin laminates are hardden with the use of a white light. This allows them to effectively bond to your teeth. Laminate veneers are strong and will resist most of the forces placed upon them by a normal diet. porcelain is a glass and like glass it is strong, but brittle. As a result, you should avoid anything that will tend to stress the laminate veneer.
